Most people are accustomed to the popular drip coffee you find on your kitchen counter or local coffee shop. The french press, easily considered a high maintenance form of brewing, is simply just a different way to brew your favorite coffee frequently resulting in a smooth cup of coffee. Included below are directions for your drinking pleasure:
1. Buy a french press, if you have one you can bypass this step obviously (they can usually be found at Target, Starbucks, Amazon.com)
2. Buy your favorite coffee beans, whole or ground (I like Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks’ Pike Place)
2a. If you bought whole beans you’re gonna have to grind them (which may require you to buy a grinder – feel free to skip this by just buying ground beans to begin with)
3. Remove the filter/plunger from the french press and scoop 4 heaping tablespoons full of coffee into the french press (put aside)
4. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a pot
5. Pour boiling water into french press
6. Place filter/plunger back in the french press pushing filter down so it rests just on top of water in press
7. Set timer for 4 minutes and let coffee steep (a popular term used by our rivals the “tea drinkers”
8. After 4 minutes push filter/plunger to the bottom of the french press
9. Pour in your favorite mug
10. Enjoy! (It’s best black but don’t be intimidated if you like to use cream or sugar…be my guest)
And there’s your French Press tutorial. I usually brew around 8am on Fridays. If we can get enough people to brew at just the right time we might start a French Pressed Fridays revolution! I’ll seeya next Friday.
